Over the years the Lucy + Jorge Orta have observed how people all over the world deal with milk as an essential daily nourishment. Milk is a staple of nutritional health in many diets. This work was initially inspired by the poignent advertising campaigns “Vaso de Leche”, which targeted undernourished children in Peru in the early 90's and it speaks of much broader diet and health issues. But, these cast aluminum jugs, bottles, bags, and cartons do not hold any material, nor are they marked with significant texts or images. Rather, they are stripped of all labels and markings, revealing an aesthetic beauty born of functional design.  Milk is unique in its simplicity and directness.

This artwork was made possible through the collaboration with Royal DSM and dairy farmers in India as well as the Baliehof farm in Jabekke Belgium for the exhibition Wijheizij at the Permekemuseum in Belgium.
