The inspiration for the design of this beautiful plate, the 35th in the series, derives from Lucy + Jorge Orta’s expedition to the Peruvian Amazon (2009) and drawings from their Amazonia series. The olive branch, which is depicted in platinum silver, is symbolic to the Ortas. So too is the bee, which as as a pollinator and an instigator of life cycles, plays a significant part in the safeguarding of biodiversity. The verse is taken from the artists’ film Amazonia, written by eco-poet Mario Petrucci.
Royal Limoges porcelain has been used in the production of this edition, designed exclusively for Yorkshire Sculpture Park by Lucy + Jorge Orta to coincide with their 2013 exhibition. Designed, and produced in France and created with a 4-colour enamel process including platinum silver accents, each plate is inscribed with the original artists’ drawings and is signed and numbered on the reverse. The porcelain plate is in an edition of 50 and comes beautifully boxed. To enquire about a purchase, please contact Studio Orta.
