Hosted jointly by United Nations Environment Program and the Natural World Museum, the twenty-eighth Act of 70 x 7 The Meal was staged in the historic Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild in Monaco and presided over by His Serene Highness The Sovereign Prince of Monaco, in honour of the UN Art for the Environment initiative. The Art for the Environment programme is designed to utilise the universal language of art as a catalyst to unite people in action and thought, and to empower individuals, communities, and leaders.
Within the exquisite dinner setting, UN delegates and guests were gathered together to draw up a charter of shared environmental values across social, economic, and political realms. Lucy + Jorge Orta created the limited edition porcelain dinner service to address specifically the theme of water scarcity, enamelled on the porcelain are the artists’ drawings and the citation, “In truth the story of water almost everywhere involves abuse, waste and even tragedy”.
