This limited edition Royal Limoges porcelain diner plate created by artists Lucy + Jorge Orta forms part of an ongoing series entitled '70 x 7 The Meal', which unfolds in a series of 'acts'.
This edition –Act XXXIII– is limited to 150. The design is populated with the artists intricately drawn plants species making reference to Suffolk's local food production, heritage, landscape, foraging, wildlife and the interconnected web of nature. The verse of poetry "Tug at any one thing in nature and the rest will move", around the rim of the plate was composed by the eco-poet Mario Petrucci, specifically for the artists. 70x7 is the symbol of infinity.
The plate was designed to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Smiths Row, a public art gallery in Suffolk, England in 2012. As well as the limited edition plates, the artists designed a site-specific installation for the gallery in the form of a beautifully set dinning table for 42 guests, which portrayed the poetic relationship between different aspects of East Anglian culture.
